Formula Selector Guide

1. Choose by Repair Type:

  • Horizontal/Castable Repairs:

    • For fastest set and return to service: F1-HC
    • For extended working time or large repairs: F3-HC
  • Vertical & Overhead Repairs:

    • For fast-setting, minimum thickness required: F1-VO
    • For feather finishes and/or spray/shotcrete: F3-VO
  • Rebar Corrosion Mitigation:

    • Directly coat steel rebar before patching: RC
  • Challenging Substrates (e.g., carbonation, reactive aggregate):

    • Apply primer first: PR
  • Surface Protection & Durability:

    • Use as admixture (in F3) or curing spray: Endure

2. Consider Project Conditions:

  • Cold Weather (down to -5°F/-20°C):
    • Use F1-HC or F1-VO (condition activator, use Fast-Set admixture if needed)
  • Warm/Hot Weather:
    • Use F3 formulas with chilled activator and/or Slow-Set admixture

3. Application Methods:

  • Hand Pack or Trowel: Any formula, but F1-VO and F3-VO are designed for easy overhead/vertical placement
  • Bucket Mix: All formulas
  • Mortar Mixer: F1-HC, F3-HC, F3-VO
  • Pump/Shotcrete/Spray: F3-VO (recommended); F3-HC for pumping overlays

Common Scenarios & Recommendations

  • Emergency road/airport repair: F1-HC for rapid set and traffic reopening in under an hour
  • Bridge column repair: F3-VO for vertical surfaces; feather edges possible
  • Corroded rebar in spall: RC as direct coating, then patch with F3-HC or F1-HC
  • Large overlay or expansion joint header: F3-HC for extended working time and pumpability
  • Reactive or carbonated substrate: Prime with PR before patching
