Understanding Phoscrete’s Shelf Life and Storage

Proper storage and adherence to shelf life guidelines are crucial for getting the best performance from Phoscrete products. Using expired or improperly stored materials can result in poor set times, weak bonds, or failed repairs. This article explains how to identify shelf life, store components, and handle expired Phoscrete safely.

How to Identify Expiration

Check the "Use By" Date:
Every Phoscrete bag and jug is labeled with a “use by” date, printed at the bottom right corner of the package.

Lot Numbers:
Lot numbers also indicate the date of manufacture and can be used for quality tracking.

Best Practices for Storage

Store Dry Mix Bags Indoors:
Keep in a dry, low-humidity area, off the ground, and away from direct sunlight.

Store Activator Jugs:
Keep indoors; avoid areas with wide temperature swings. Do not freeze or expose to excessive heat.

Endure:
Store above 41°F (5°C), in the original container, away from sunlight.

Avoid Opening Until Use:
Only open kits or components when you’re ready to mix and install.

Inspect for Damage:
Do not use opened, damaged, or leaking containers.

What If Material Is Expired or Questionable?

Phoscrete strongly advises against using expired or improperly stored material.
If you must use questionable material:

Test a full kit in your shop (not in the field) to check mixing properties, set time, and strength.

If the mix appears abnormal, does not set properly, or feels weak - DO NOT USE IT.

Proper Disposal of Expired Material

Hardened Phoscrete concrete and dry mix powder:
Safe for disposal in any dumpster or landfill.

Phoscrete Activator:
Must be neutralized before disposal.
See: [BP Phoscrete Activator Safe Disposal - Best Practices.pdf]

Endure:
Dispose according to local environmental regulations.

Always follow local, state, and federal environmental rules for disposal.
